About Bridge Contract Bridge was invented in the 1920’s, and in the following decades became very popular. Bridge currently occupies a position of great prestige, and is more comprehensibly organized than any other card game. There are clubs, tournaments and championships throughout the world. Rubber Bridge This is the basic form of contract bridge, played by four players. Informal, social bridge games are often played this way, and Rubber Bridge is played in clubs for money. Men: Mondays and Fridays (except the last Friday which is Duplicate). Time 13h15. Fee R5.00 for members. Women (with partner): Wednesdays at 13h15 (except for the second Wednesday which is Duplicate). Fee R5.00 Duplicate Bridge This is the game normally played in clubs, tournaments and matches. The game is basically the same but having the same deals replayed with different sets of players reduces the luck element. At least eight players are required for this. There are some significant differences in the scoring. Please phone or SMS Maureen Brassel (082 822-0033) if you wish to play Duplicate Bridge. Duplicate Women's Pairs: Second Wednesday of every month (except December). Time 13h15. Duplicate Mixed Pairs: Last Friday of every month (except December). Time 13h15 Anna Viljoen Duplicate for Women: Wednesday 9th May. This duplicate is for women only as it was part of a bequest. Time 13h15. Nita Botha Duplicate for Women: Wednesday 16th August. This duplicate is for women only as it was part of a bequest. Time 13h15. PCC Duplicate Women's Championship: Wednesday 12th September. Time 13h15. Thursday Night Supper Club Social Bridge is played on Thursday evenings. Bring your supper and drinks and join us at 18h00 for a fun evening. Bridge Clinic Beginners and new players are welcome. Tuesday at 9h15, except on the first Tuesday of the month. Playing fee is R5 for members and R10 for non-members. PCC Bridge: Ladies’ and Men’s section Ladies and men play in different sections. Play takes place in the Bridge room situated in the Main Clubhouse. The Bridge section currently has 40 members and would like to welcome and encourage all PCC members to try their hand at Bridge. |
